Geriatrics Management of Older people in Orthopaedic ward

Hip fracture is one of the causes of long hospital stay for elderly. Management of patients after fractures is organised differently. In some NHS trusts in England it is managed within the orthopaedics ward until discharge, others will transfer patient to designated geriatrics ward once patients are surgically stable. Surgical treatment of hip fractures is not the only treatment that the patient required rather it is the iceberg calling for more digging into patients medical history to draw the whole picture of management which the role of the orthogeriatrician whether it is completed in orthopaedicss ward, geriatrics ward or in a community Hospital.
